Katherine Ramsay

the backbone of silk.

Coming from a medical background I had a fascination with the anatomy of the human body and what lies beneath the skin. I was drawn to the architecture of the spinal column and the supporting muscles of the back and neck which provide a strong scaffold. Through a mix of fabrics, a variety of silks, leather, and jersey, I convey the beauty and elasticity of muscle and the glorious structure of the spinal bones. I explore the fragility of these seemingly strong structures. The collection moves from striking structural pieces to reflect the strength and beauty of the backbone, to garments with a softer more vulnerable outline in delicate tissue transparent fabrics.
