execute par l'amour (executed by love).

A fashion collection is created according to a human scale since it is based upon the body/bodies of the female or male form.  For example, a model wearing a garment moves his/her body around a catwalk, engaging the audience with how she portrays the garment, its style, function and aesthetic appeal. It is something to be documented, recorded and provide inspiration to others.  I am interested in exploring avenues of historical fashion that are habitually passed over because of the view that they are now costume rather than wearable garments.   I propose to create a collection that is inspired by 16th century dress, one that explores the passionate love story of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. I will explore the atmosphere that surrounded their short marriage, the controlling nature within the marriage, the controversy and her death. The key emotions that symbolise their marriage will provide the inspiration to produce a dramatic and physically powerful collection. Anne was known to be the most beautiful wife of Henry. Her physical features will also play a key role in providing me with the aesthetic appearance for my collection. Her long black hair, jewelled eyes and long neck will all be incorporated within my collection. The collection must consist of six outfits and each outfit will represent a fundamental period in their marriage. I will construct the garments with care and attention to detail. I will use rich, luxurious fabrics in keeping with the era I want to interpret into a modern style, thereby playing with the idea of historical dress now becoming costume. I aim to create pieces that will express power, royalty and grandeur while portraying the passion and romance between Henry and Anne. I feel that this is necessary to capture the true opulence of my theme. I want the audience to feel unsettled and overcome by my collection and to achieve that I will find a suitable piece of music that is equally dramatic to set the atmosphere for my show.
The performance of my collection will be large in scale due to the number of people involved, the collection is about the reaction it receives as are all royal appointments.
This collection will examine my ability as a designer to create a look that represents my theme but that has been pushed into the 21st century. My outcome is to have a modern and contemporary collection that requires attention to detail and that ultimately expresses me as the fashion designer I have become.
